The Land Tax Management Act 1956, assented to on 31 October 1956, made provision for the imposition, assessment and collection of a land tax upon unimproved values of certain lands (1), with provision for the Governor to appoint a Commissioner of Land Tax and an Assistant Commissioner of Land Tax.(2)
The Land Tax Act 1956, to commence on 1 November 1956, imposed a land tax upon the value of certain lands (3), and included a Schedule listing the value of land with the rates of land tax payable.(4)
On 6 April 1983 the Land Tax Office was transferred from a sub-department of Treasury to the newly established Department of Finance (5), but on 30 March 1988 the Department of Finance was abolished, and the Land Tax Office was returned to Treasury (Office of State Revenue). (6)
