Full description
This Centre was established under the Prisons Act 1952-1968 in a proclamation of 17 September 1969. The proclamation declared three prisons at Silverwater - the Work Release Centre, the Training and Detention Centre for Women and Irwin House Detention Centre. (1)
Prisoners were selected to participate in the Work Release Program. They attended work outside the Centre during the day and returned to custody each evening and at weekends. (2) The Centre was abolished on 16 February 1996. (3)
