Full description

Wantabadgery Provisional School [II] in the County of Clarendon was established in January 1895. Provisional Schools were opened in areas of smaller populations where insufficient children attended to justify the opening of a full public school. By 1895 twelve students were required to maintain a provisional school. Usually the Department of Public Instruction supplied the teacher, books and other teaching materials and the parents provided the premises for the School.

In March 1904 the School was reduced to a Half-Time School sharing a teacher with Clarendon Half-Time School. Half-Time Schools were elementary schools for children in areas of scattered population. The attendance of at least sixteen children was required, in two groups of ten or more who assembled at teaching stations and were taught by an itinerant teacher. The School remained in this status until September 1904.

In October 1904 Wantabadgery Provisional School [III] opened by which time ten students were required for a school of this status.

The School was converted to a public school in January 1915. Wantabadgery Public School closed in December 1971.

There were two previous schools in Wantabadgery viz. Wantabadgery Half-Time School [I] 01/01/1879 - 30/09/1880 and Wantabadgery Provisional School [I] 01/11/1881- 31/05/1884.
