The second Court of General and Quarter Sessions at Newcastle was established in 1892, when it was placed administratively in the Metropolitan, Suburban and Hunter District. Newcastle Court was transferred to the Southern and Hunter District in 1903 until 1954 and then to the new Hunter District in 1955 where it remained until 1973. The dates of hearings at the Newcastle Court were proclaimed in the NSW Government Gazette. The Court ceased on 1 July 1973 when Courts of General and Quarter Sessions were abolished and the District courts took on the criminal as well as the civil jurisdiction. Newcastle Court of General and Quarter Sessions became a court in the District Court Criminal and Special Jurisdiction, Hunter Division.User Contributed Tags
