Full description
The Penrith Court of General and Quarter Sessions appears to have been established by proclamation in the NSW Government Gazette with its ?first date of hearings 10 October, 1859 (1). Courts of General and Petty Sessions were administered within a system of Districts. The Penrith Court was initially placed in the Cumberland and Coast District until 16 July 1861 (2) when it was transferred to the Metropolitan and Coast District. The role of the Court of Quarter Sessions was to hear less serious criminal cases. The Court appears to have operated until c.1881 after which the Court was apparently abolished.
