Full description

The Newcastle Court of General and Quarter Sessions was established by 16 July, 1861 (1). Courts of General and Quarter Sessions were administered within Districts and the Newcastle Court was initially placed in the Northern District. In 1862 new districts were established and Newcastle became part of the Hunter River district where it stayed until 1865. From 1866 until 1877 it was within the Metropolitan and Coast District and from 1878 until 1881 within the Metropolitan and Hunter District. It appears that the Court lapsed in 1881. The dates of hearings at the Newcastle Court were proclaimed in the NSW Government Gazette. Endnotes:
