Full description

The Department of Natural Resources was established on 29 August 2005 when the former Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources was abolished and the following branches and staff transferred to the Department of Natural Resources:

a) the Corporate Services Branch and the Finance Branch;
b) staff in the Government and Executive Coordination Unit as the Director-General of the Premier’s Department determines are required in connection with the Department of Natural Resources;
c) staff in the Media and Communications Branch as the Director-General of the Premier’s Department determines are required in connection with the Department of Natural Resources;
d) staff who, in the opinion of the Director-General of the Premier’s Department, are principally involved in the administration of legislation administered by the Minister for Natural Resources.(1)

Other branches of the former Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources were transferred to the Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability; the Ministry of Transport; the Premier’s Department; the Cabinet Office; and the newly created Department of Planning [III].(2)

The Department of Natural Resources was abolished on 27 April 2007, with its functions transferred to the Department of Lands, the Department of Primary Industries, the Department of Water and Energy, and the Department of Environment and Climate Change. (3)
