Full description

Clear Hills [II] Provisional School, in the County of Urana, opened in October 1885. Provisional Schools were established in areas of smaller population where there were insufficient pupils to support a full public school. By 1885 a minimum of twelve students was required for the establishment and maintenance of a provisional school. Usually the Department of Public Instruction provided the teacher, books and other teaching equipment while the parents were responsible for the building.

In April 1895 the Clear Hills [II] School was converted to a Public School. Public Schools were basic elementary schools in the New South Wales education system. By 1895 an attendance of twenty students were required for a school of this category. The School was re-named Oaklands [II] Public School in May 1914.

Oaklands [II] Public School was converted to Oaklands Central School in January 1964. Central Schools contained both primary and secondary sections, and provided secondary education for children from nearby primary schools as well as from its own primary section.
