The Health Translation Service was probably established by 1980 and was previously known as Health Information and Translation Services.(1)

The Service produced publications in community languages relating to health issues including Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), infertility, menopause and the social and emotional health of the disabled.(2)

In 1990, the Health Translation Service marked its tenth year of existence. The Service distributed more than 800,000 copies of publications in twenty-two languages and established a Korean language team.(3)

The Health Translation Service became part of the Public Affairs Branch sometime around 1993 as part of a major restructuring of NSW Health at that time.(4)
