Full description

In 1940 the administrative structure of the Department of Agriculture was reorganised, so as to provide educational and investigative services specific to the work of each division of the department. The 30 previously existing branches were reduced to eight divisions, namely, Plant Industry, Horticulture, Animal Industry, Dairying, Science and Research, Marketing, Information and Extension Services and Administrative. (1) The Division of Information and Extension was created in the first half of 1941. (2)

In 1957 the name of the Division of Information and Extension Services was changed to the Division of Information Services. (3)

The division was responsible for the following services: editing, inquiry counter, distribution of publications, managing the library, developing and maintaining extension aids and training. (4)

In January 1968 the responsibility for the Agricultural Bureau, Allied Group Extension, Women’s Extension Services, and Audio Visual Aids Service were transferred to the newly created Division of Regional Extension Service (5)

In October 1971, the Public Service Board authorised the amalgamation of the Division of Information Services, and Division of Extension Services under the title of Extension Services. (6)
