In December 1967, the Public Service Board authorised the establishment of a new section of the Department of Agriculture. The Division of Extension Services was to be established effective from January 1968. The Division was created through the amalgamation of the Division of Regional Extension with part of the Division of Information Services, namely the Agricultural Bureau, Allied Group Extension, Women’s Extension Services, and Audio Visual Aids Service. (1)The main functions and responsibilities of the Division were to: administer and co-ordinate the extension service through nine regions; supervise the regional offices; arrange meetings of the nine regional advisory committees; administer the Commonwealth Extension Services Grant Funds; review and report to the Director General of the Department of Agriculture on matters important to extension services, and organise training of extension workers. In October 1971 the Public Service Board authorised the amalgamation of the Division of Information Services, and Division of Extension Services under the title of Extension Services. (3)
The function of the Division of Extension services expanded to include editorial services. (4)
In late 1980 the Division of Extension Services was amalgamated with the Division of Research Services to form the Division of Research and Advisory Services. (5)
