Full description

It appears that the Pasture Protection Section had been established by 1934 (1), in order to assist the Department of Agriculture to administer the Pasture Protection Boards. (2) Pasture Protection Boards were required to be established by s.5 of the Pasture Protection Act 1934 (No. 35, 1934)

The Pasture Protection Section (or branch) was also dealt with: the appointment of inspectors of stock and rabbits, appoint to inspectors of staff on Pasture Protection boards, appointment of Pasture Protection Board Secretaries, establishment and maintenance of public watering places in the Western Division of the State, and control of licences to keep fur bearing rabbits for commercial purposes. (3)

By Mid 1967, the Pasture Protection Section appears to have been incorporated into the Division of Animal Industry. (4)

On 1 July 1979, the Division of Dairying was amalgamated with the Division of Animal Industries to form the Division of Animal Health and the Division of Animal Production. The functions of the Pasture Protection Section may have been transferred to the newly created Division of Animal Health. (5)
