Full description

In 1940 the administrative structure of the Department of Agriculture was reorganised, so as to provide educational and investigative services specific to the work of each division of the department. The 30 previously existing branches were reduced to eight divisions, namely, Plant Industry, Horticulture, Animal Industry, Dairying, Science and Research, Marketing, Information and Extension Services and Administrative. (1)

The main function of the Dairying Division was to provide regulation and advisory services, regarding the production and manufacture of dairy products. The Division was also responsible for the administration of the herd recording system, for the management of the Departmental Dairy herds. (2)

On 1 July 1979 the Division of Dairying was amalgamated with the Division of Animal Industries to form the Division of Animal Health and the Division of Animal Production. (3)
