Full description

The Workers Compensation Board was created on 1 July 1989 by the Workers Compensation (Amendment) Act 1988 (Act No.132, 1988) (1) which amended the Workers Compensation Act 1987 (Act No.70, 1987) and abolished the State Compensation Board. The new Authority consisted of an amalgamation of the former State Compensation Board and the Rehabilitation Services and the Occupational Health and Safety Divisions of the Department of Industrial Relations and Employment by proclamation on 1 July 1989. (2)

The Authority had a board which consisted of a General Manager and six part-time directors. (3)

The Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Authority was abolished by the WorkCover Administration Act 1989 (Act No.120, 1989) which established the WorkCover Authority to have the legislative responsibility for Occupational Health and Safety legislation. (4)
