Full description

Wang Wauk Provisional School in the county of Gloucester opened in August, 1915. Provisional Schools brought education to areas where the school population was insufficient to support a public school. When the Wang Wauk Provisional School was established at least ten children were required to maintain a school of this category. There were provisions for the Department of Education to provide all or part of the cost of buildings, but parents often met most of the cost of both buildings and furniture. The Department of Education paid the teacher and supplied the books and equipment. Wang Wauk was converted into a Public School in July, 1938. Public Schools are basic elementary schools in the New South Wales education system. At this time the attendance of twenty children was required to establish a Public School. Wang Wauk Public School [I] closed at the end of 1950. [A previous school at the same location, with the name spelled “Wong Wauk,” had operated from 1892 until 1904.] Reference
