The Mount Finch Subsidised School was opened by 24 July 1929. (1) Subsidised Schools were conducted in localities where the minimum attendance required for even the smallest type of government school could not be obtained. While the Department paid a subsidy for each pupil, parents were totally responsible for providing the school buildings and the teacher; often, however, subsidised schools were permitted to use former government buildings. Subsidised Schools were not technically government schools. (2)
A school had previously been conducted at Mount Finch during the years 1884 to 1890. This school was variously a Provisional School, House to House School and Half-Time School. (3)
