Morisset East Provisional School, in the County of Northumberland, was established in January until May 1912. Provisional Schools were established in areas where the school population was insufficient to support a public school. Parents provided the building and furniture, while the Department of Education paid the teacher and supplied the books and equipment). When the Morisset East school was established a minimum number of 10 students were required for a school of this classification. Morisset East became a Public School in June 1912 and continued in this status until December 1938. Public Schools are basic elementary schools in the New South Wales education system. By 1912 the attendance of twenty children was required to establish a Public School. It would appear that the school closed briefly in October - November 1944 following the retirement of the teacher-in-charge. When the school re-opened it was under the charge of the teacher from the recently closed Mirra View Public School who togther with the pupils from the closed school was transferred to the Morisset East Public School. (1) In September 1948 the school was re-classified as Bonnells Bay Provisional School probably because the attendance had fallen below the twenty pupils required. From May 1955 it was converted to a public school. In 2004 Bonnells Bay Public School was located at Morisset Park Road, Bonnells Bay in the Hunter / Central Coast Region (2). Endnotes
