Stewarts River Provisional School, in the county of Macquarie was established in March 1953. Provisional Schools were established in areas where at least nine children, but fewer than the number required for a Public School, could be expected to attend. Parents provided the building and furniture, while the Department of Education paid the teacher and supplied books and equipment. In November 1957 the classification of provisional school was withdrawn, and the Stewarts River School was converted into a Public School . Public Schools are basic elementary schools in the New South Wales education system. In November 1957 the attendance of nine children was required to establish and maintain a Public School.
