Stewarts River Provisional School in the county of Macquarie was established in March 1900. Provisional Schools were established in areas where at least ten children, but fewer than the number required for a Public School, could be expected to attend. Parents provided the building and furniture, while the Department of Education paid the teacher and supplied books and equipment. In January 1902 the School was converted to a Public School. Public Schools are basic elementary schools in the New South Wales education system. From 1880, the attendance of twenty children was required to establish a Public School. Stewarts River Public School closed in December 1951. REFERENCE:
