The Parramatta District of the Court of General and Quarter Sessions was established in 1955. The District contained only one court - the Parramatta Court had previously been part of the Western District. The Court sat for the first time on 28 February 1955. (1) The Parramatta Court convened to hear less serious criminal cases on dates that were proclaimed in the New South Wales Government Gazette. There were no sittings of the Court in 1972 and 1973. The District was formally abolished on 30 June 1973 when the Courts of General and Quarter Sessions themselves were abolished and their role was assumed by the Criminal Jurisdiction of the District Court of New South Wales.
