Quorrobolong, in county Northumberland, operated as a Public School from October 1865 until July 1868. (1) Public Schools (referred to as National Schools until 1866) are the basic elementary school in the New South Wales education system and have operated under this title since 1867. Originally the attendance of thirty children was required for the establishment of a school, but this was reduced to twenty-five in 1867. From 1880 to 1957, twenty children were required; and from 1957 when Provisional Schools were converted to Public Schools, the minimum figure was reduced to nine. (2)
Quorrobolong was a Provisional School from August 1868 until December 1882. (3) Provisional Schools were established in areas where at least fifteen children, but fewer than the twenty-five required for a Public School, could be expected to attend. Parents provided the building and furniture, while the Council of Education or later the Department of Education paid the teacher and supplied the books and equipment.. (4)
Quorrobolong operated as a Public School from December 1882 until December 1961 when the school was closed. (5)
