Full description

Maitland West Girls High School in County Northumberland opened in January 1884. (1) The School was renamed Maitland Girls High School in 1934 and retained this title until December 1986. From January 1987 the School’s title was Maitland High School. In January 1989, the School’s title was changed to Maitland Grossmann High School because the former Evatt High School was renamed Maitland High School. ( 2)

High Schools were first established in 1883 but they only became a major part of the education system after a reorganisation of secondary education after 1910. High Schools offered an academic course to a selected intake of pupils prior to the 1920s but since then they have become comprehensive, and mostly co-educational. (3)

In 2018, Maitland Grossmann High School was located on Cumberland and Dixon Streets, Maitland East in the District of Maitland. (4)
