Lewinsbrook Provisional School [I] in the County of Durham opened on 21 January 1918. Provisional schools were those established in areas that had insufficient children attending to conduct a public school. The parents were required to provide and maintain the premises while the Department of Education supplied the teacher and teaching materials. During the period that Lewinsbrook Provisional School was in operation a minimum attendance of ten children was required to conduct a school of this status. The School closed in December 1932. Shortly after the closure of the Lewinsbrook Provisional School the school re-opened as a subsidised school.
