Full description
Kahibah Infants School in the County of Northumberland opened in January 1938 and became a Public School in January 1952.(1) Infants Schools enrolled only the youngest children and were introduced in Sydney to relieve the pressure on nearby Public Schools.(2) A Public School was one which taught at an elementary level of education, and it is assumed that the reclassification co-incided with the creation of a primary department at the School. When Kahibah Public School was established a minimum attendance of twenty children was required. From 1957, the minimum number was reduced to nine.(3) In 2003, Kahibah Public School was located on Frith Street, Kahibah in the District of Newcastle.(4) ENDNOTES1.
