Full description
Heatherdale Provisional School in the County of Gloucester opened in August 1929, replacing Gloucester River Lower Public School which had closed in 1929. On a visit to the school in 1954 the Inspector noted that the school closed temporarily during 1953 and re-opened on 15 July 1954. (1) Heatherdale Provisional School became a Public School in November 1957 and remained in this status until its closure in December 1969. When this provisional school was established, schools of this classification served areas where at least 10 children, but fewer than the 20 required for a Public School, could be expected to attend. The re-classification to a public school occurred when the Department of Education reduced the mandatory number of students attending a public school from 20 to nine.
