Bellevue Provisional School in the County of Brisbane was opened in June 1872.(1) In 1878, Bellevue Provisional School became a Public School and was renamed Gundy (2) Public School. The School remained a Public School until its closure in March 1991.(2) Provisional Schools emerged in 1867 and could be established in areas where at least 15 children, but fewer than 25 required for a Public School, could be expected to attend. When the Gundy (2) Public School was established, this classification of school was required to have a minimum attendance of 25 children until 1880 when the number was reduced to 20. Gundy (2) was a description given by the Department of Public Instruction to distinguish this school from another Gundy, described by the Department as Gundy (1) which was in the county of Gordon.
