The inaugural meeting of the Community Affairs Committee of the Riverina College of Advanced Education (RCAE) was convened on 5 September 1978. (1) The Committee reported directly to the governing body of the College, the Council. (2) The Community Affairs Committee was established to deal with matters reflecting the concern of the College to develop and improve its liaison and working relationship with the staff, the student body, the graduate body and the community at large. (3) In particular, the Committee advised the Council and the Principal in regard to promotion and regulation of College activities such as:
- continuing education;
- Research, particularly that which had relevance to the Riverina region;
- the graduate body, including the establishment and maintenance of the College convocation;
- publicity and public relations, particularly through the media and College publications;
- archives;
- student welfare, including student services (medical, counselling, careers advice, employment, chaplaincy, sport, pre-school and child care services); and
- other relevant and appropriate activities or aspects of College life as arise from time to time, which may be raised by Committee members or through them by members of the Community. (4)
The final meeting of the RCAE Community Affairs Committee was held on 27 November 1979, after which the Committee was disbanded. (5) Endnotes:
