The inaugural meeting of the Interim Research Management Committee of Charles Sturt University (CSU) was convened on 27 June 1990. (1) At the Committee’s first meeting in 1991, the Committee agreed to change its name to the ‘Research Management Committee’, which has remained the same since that time. (2) The Committee reported directly to the principal academic body of the University, the Academic Senate. In 2002, the membership of the Research Management Committee consisted of:
- the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Graduate Training);
- the Presiding Officer of Academic Senate;
- the Sub-Deans for Research of each Faculty;
- one Research Centre Director, elected by and from the University’s Research Centres; and
- three academic staff appointed by the Academic Senate. (3)
The role of the CSU Research Management Committee is to enhance the University’s research performance, culture and profile by providing advice to the Academic Senate and the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Graduate Training) on research planning, development and management. More specifically;
- forward to Academic Senate for approval, all relevant University research related policies and procedures, the triennial and annual plans for research, and an annual report on the performance of the University with respect to research;
- provide advice on the development of research related policies and procedures;
- provide advice on the annual monitoring of the University’s research performance;
- provide advice on the annual monitoring of the performance of the Research Centres and Groups;
- provide advice on approving the Annual Plans for Research Centres and Groups;
- provide advice on developing and implementing the University’s plan to enhance research performance;
- provide advice on facilitating collaborative research; and
- provide advice on other research related functions as required. (4)
