Soon after its establishment the Board formed itself into a number of committees to make detailed examination of matters affecting many of the university activities. Development of legal and medical education was one of the major of matters considered in its early period. (2) The Universities Board was reconstituted and renamed in January 1970 under part four of the Higher Education Act 1969 and became a statutory body called New South Wales Universities Board.
