The Stores Branch was restructured in 1871, (1) and appears to have produced Store Catalogues from around that date. (2) The Stores Branch was responsible for the purchase of stock for the Railways, and co-ordinating the tendering of outside organizations to supply the railways with goods such as brushes, steel, coal and oil .The Stores Branch appeared to have been renamed several times. It was renamed upon the appointment of the Comptroller of Stores in April 1889 (3), and reverted again to Stores Branch in 1908. (4) According to organisational charts the Comptroller of Stores managed the branch until 1957. (5)Endnotes
