Full description

The former Gaol at Hay was once again proclaimed a prison on 26 August 1930 and re-established on 9 September 1930. (1) The Governor was Harry Hood. (2) In the year ended 30 June, 1936 106 prisoners were 'dealt with' at the prison - a daily average of 13. (3) The gaol was vacated in August 1940 and ceased to be a prison on 31 October 1947.(4) The building was leased to the military where it became a temporary hospital in conjunction with the Hay P.O.W. camps a well as a confinement for Japanese and Italian Prisoners of War.
