Full description

The Local Government (Shires) Act, 1905 provided for the division of the whole state (exclusive of existing municipalities) into Shires, to determine their boundaries and to name the shires. (1) On accordance with this the shire of Talbragar (Shire No. 85) was proclaimed a Shire on 7 March, 1906 (2) On 16 September, 1949 part of the Talbragar Shire was transferred to the Municipality of Dubbo. (3) On 3 December, 1954 a part of the Shire of Talbragar was transferred to the Municipality of Molong. (4) at the same time portion of the Wellington Shire was transferred to Talbragar. (5) Further parts of the Talbragar Shire were transferred to Dubbo on 7 October, 1966 (6) and 24 December, 1971 (7) The remainder of the Talbragar Shire was added to Dubbo on 16 November, 1979 (8). The 'union' of the City of Dubbo and the Shire of Talbragar became effective from 1 March, 1980 and the Talbragar Shire was thus abolished.
