Full description

The Department of State and Regional Development was formed on 15 December, 1995 when the Department of State Development amalgamated with the Department of Business and Regional Development. (1)

When the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation was abolished on 3 March 2006 the Tourism Industry Division was added to the Department of State and Regional Development. At the same time the Ministry for Science and Medical Research was abolished and its branches were also added to the Department of State and Regional Development. (2)

When the Office of the Coordinator General was established as a separate office within the Department of Premier and Cabinet on 27 April 2007, such staff in the Department of State and Regional Development as the Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet determined were required in connection with the Office of the Coordinator General were removed from the Department of State and Regional Development and added to the Department of Premier and Cabinet. (3)

On 16 March 2009 the Small Business Regulation Review Unit was removed from the Department of State and Regional Development and added to the Department of Premier and Cabinet. (4)

From 1 July 2009 the Department of State and Regional Development was abolished and its functions were transferred to the new Principal Department, the the Department of Industry and Investment (5), except for the Retail Tenancy Unit, which was added to the Department of Services, Technology and Administration (6), and the Office of Biofuels which was added to the Land and Property Management Authority.
