In 1973 the Public Transport Commission established an Apprenticeships Committee to "review all facets of recruitment, selection, training and employment of apprentices to ensure that the standards of training, facilities, and use of this important human resource, are the best that can be provided. It is anticipated that during the current financial year the Commission will establish and industrial and training landmark with the setting up of an Apprentice Training College." (1) With the development of in-house staff training courses by the Training and Development Branch, changes in technology based trade courses, and the Public Transport Commission's Cadetship Program there would be no room for the Railway Institute of yesteryear. The Railway Institute continued until the end of 1974? The Apprentice Training College at Chullora was opened on 29 May 1975.
