Full description

Under the Transport Administration Act (No.109, 1988), on the 16 January 1989, the State Rail Authority was reconstituted and continued to operate the railway services provided, prior to this Act. This date also marked a major administrative re-organisation with the creation of new railway divisions with Passenger Operations being split into CityRail and Countrylink.

CityRail provides suburban and intercity passenger rail services throughout Sydney as well as the Wollongong, Newcastle and Southern Highlands regions, and west across the Blue Mountains as far as Lithgow.
