The Operations Branch of the Public Transport Commission was responsible for the oversight and coordination of all transport functions, including commuter, country, passenger, and freight railway services, bus operations, plus trading and catering services covering railway refreshment rooms, railway workshop canteens, and bus depot canteens. (1) From 1 December 1974 the Operations Branch took control of Sydney Harbour ferry services. (2) Through an organisational restructure in 1976-1977 Bus Services and Ferry Services became separate units of the Public Transport Commission while the Operations Branch was realigned on the strategic triad of - Locomotive Operations, Rail Operations, plus Trading and Catering. (3) In 1979 the Trading and Catering Service was reformed as a "Support Service Branch".
