Full description

Invermein Court of Petty Sessions was created on 30 September 1832 under s.17 of the Offenders Punishment and Justices Summary Jurisdiction Act of 1832 (3 Wil.IV No.3). (1) The Invermein Court of Petty Sessions was never officially abolished.

Invermein was re-named Scone, the site for the township selected and proclaimed under this name on 5 September 1837. (2) A Court of Petty Sessions was established at Scone on 27 April 1840. (3)

It would appear that the Court of Petty Sessions at Invermein ceased between 1838 and 1840 although the exact date cannot be substantiated. Petty Sessions were to be held at Invermein on the Friday of each week, commencing on Friday, the second of the month from 2 November 1838. (4) Special Petty Sessions were to be held at Invermein on Monday 2 September 1839 for the purpose of receiving Applications for Agricultural Labourers and Mechanics. (5)
