Burwood Court of Petty Sessions, within the Parramatta Police District, was created on 20 September 1899, under the provisions of s.459 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1883 (46 Vic. No.17). (1)
The records of the Ashfield Court of Petty Sessions were transferred to the Burwood Court of Petty Sessions on 10 October 1927 when the Ashfield Court of Petty Sessions was abolished. (2) The records of the Ashfield Town Hall Court of Petty Sessions were transferred to the Burwood Court of Petty Sessions on 31 May 1957 when the Ashfield Town Hall Court of Petty Sessions was abolished. (3)
The Burwood Court of Petty Sessions was abolished on 31 December 1984, when the Local Courts Act 1982 abolished all Courts of Petty Sessions and replaced these with Local Courts. (2)
