The Land and Valuation Court was constituted by The Land and Valuation Court Act (No. 10 1921) on 10 December 1921 replacing the Land Appeal Court. G.H. Pike was appointed Judge of the Court on 23 December 1921 and the first proceedings of the Court were held on 14 February 1922. The Act also provided for the appointment of Deputy Judges. The Land and Valuation Court's jurisdiction included - * Matters pending before the former Land Appeal Court * Appeals, references or other matters under the Crown Lands Acts, the Pastures Protection Act (No. 35 1912), the Closer Settlement Acts, the Water Act (No. 44 1912), and the Public Roads Act (No. 95 1902) * Objections to or appeals against valuations under the Valuation of Land Act (No. 2 1916) * Appeals under the Closer Settlement Acts * Appeals and objections under the Local Government Act (No. 41 1919) Section 135 & Schedule 3 * Appeals under the Local Government Act (No. 41 1919) Section 175 * The Sydney Corporation Act (No. 35 1902) Part IX * Any Act where the unimproved capital of rateable land or property exceeded £5,000 * Appeals under the Western Lands (Amendment) Act (No.15 1918) Section 10 * Compensation claims for land acquired for public purposes The Local Government Appeals Tribunal was constituted by the Local Government (Appeals) Amendment Act (No. 78 1971), which commenced on 1 September 1972. The Tribunal assumed the jurisdiction of the Land and Valuation Court over development appeals. The Land and Environment Court replaced the Land and Valuation Court on 1 September 1980.User Contributed Tags
