Full description

The Technical Education and New South Wales University of Technology Act, 1949 (Act No.11, 1949) established a Technical Education Advisory Council on 1 July 1949 (1) to make recommendations to the Minister for Education on the (2) -

* Provision and conduct of technical education in the State having regard to the needs of the community, industry and commerce
* Co-ordination of the functions of the Department of Technical Education, the University of Sydney, the New South Wales University of Technology and other bodies concerned with education
* Other matters to be prescribed.

The Director of Technical Education and the Director-General of Education were ex-officio members of the Council. (3) The Director of Technical Education was also the Chairman of the Committee. (4) The other members of the Committee were appointed by the Governor and were drawn from industry, commerce, and the professions, the trade union movement and educational authorities. (5) The Council met at least four times annually.

The Technical and Further Education Act (Act No.72,1974) commenced on 1 January 1975 and abolished the Technical Education Advisory Council replacing it with a Council of Technical and Further Education.
