Brief description

This is an agegrid showing the present day age of the oceanic lithosphere around the Australian Continent . The agegrid is created using a global set of seafloor spreading isochrons, reconstructed on the basis of approximately 40,000 marine magnetic anomaly identifications and fracture zones identified from marine gravity anomalies and a global set of finite rotations.

Lineage

Statement: Grey areas indicate regions that are floored by continental or transitional crust or areas where the age or nature of the crust is unknown.

Resolution = 6 minute x 6 minute
Statement: Magnetometer data collected from ship track data is interpolated to densely spaced grids using a computer program Intertec developed at the University of Sydney.
