This series consists of a volume which records summary information on the admission and discharge of residents from the Janefield Colony (VA 2847).The Register of Residents includes the following information:
- Date of Last / Previous Reception (if any)
- Number in Order of Reception (by gender) (sequential number)
- Date of Reception
- Full Name
- Gender
- Age
- Marital Status
- Occupation
- Previous Place of Abode
- By Whose Authority Sent
- Dates of Medical Certificates, and by Whom Signed
- Form of Mental Disorder
- Bodily Condition
- Details of Existing Attack
- Date of Discharge, Removal or Death
- Details of Discharge, Removal or Death
- Observations (often used to record religion).
The vast majority of the admissions in this register are for girls. It is thought that the Janefield Colony only housed a small number of boys. This changed when the facility was re-purposed as the Janefield Training Centre in 1962.
Inside the front cover, there is an extract from the Victoria Government Gazette of 16 May 1945, which proclaims Wards A, B and C and the Farm Workers Block of the Janefield Colony to be a 'mental hospital'.
