Brief description

This is a collection of account-ready data of ecosystem extent in the Western Australian Wheatbelt (WAW). The spatial extent of ecosystem types and states was derived from conceptual state and transition models, developed by experts, for nine ecosystem types in the WAW (noting that other ecosystem types were also found in the WAW but state and transition models were not developed for these). The state and transition models were constructed using methods underpinned by the Australian Ecosystem Models Framework and ecosystem states were then mapped each year from 1988 to 2020 using remotely sensed imagery and published datasets. These products were interpreted using decision rules informed by ecosystem attributes for each ecosystem state that were provided by experts. This collection includes the spatial extent of ecosystem types and states, and SEEA EA ecosystem functional groups across the WAW each year from 1988 to 2020 as GeoTIFF files, as well as the python scripts used to produce the extent maps.
