The dataset also includes some offshore rock/small island features that are part of a Geoscience Australia dataset, where features were extracted from the Heard Island mosaic (2017-2019) by using image segmentation and classification, converting to vector data and smoothing lines. A topographic dataset of Heard Island produced in 2024 by the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC). The dataset includes 4 polygon feature classes - coastline, sea, hydrology and vegetation (partial dataset only and includes McDonald Islands) and 2 line feature classes - coastline and hydrology. Features digitised include: coastline, offshore rocks, islands, vegetation (some areas), streams, lakes, waterholes and lagoons. Notes

Purpose
Digitising was undertaken by AADC to fulfil a requirement for spatial data suitable for high resolution mapping to support management, scientific activities and operational planning for Heard Island. A detailed GIS dataset was created that aligned more accurately with topographical features and included changes to the coastline and landscape that had occurred over time since mapping data was last obtained for the island.
