Full description
The outbreak of World War II provided the impetus for the establishment of the National Security (Emergency Powers) Act 1939, which established provisions with respect to public safety in the event of hostile attack within Victoria. In particular, Regulations as to the Evacuation of Children were established in accordance with the Act which made provisions for the evacuation of children should such an attack occur.
The regulations required facilities for the transfer, accommodation, maintenance, and care of children during an evacuation. The funds were appropriated by the Treasurer, and the Treasurer was required to authorise all spending on such facilities.
