The transects were 200-300 m apart running perpendicular to the shoreline to the edge of the seagrass meadow (usually ending before the 3m depth limit). Coordinates were recorded along each transect together with percentage cover classes of seagrass. Seagrass density changes in Wilson inlet were mapped using ArcViewTM . Spatial Analyst was used to create the distribution map of seagrass in the Inlet by interpolating density data between the points using the inverse distance weighted method. Given the basin type nature of the Inlet a cut-off boundary of seagrass was assumed using the 2 meter contour line of the Wilson Inlet bathymetry layer. Two meters was the reported depth limit of seagrass in the Inlet. This showed the central part of the basin to have no seagrass. Survey years 2017, 2018 & 2019: Wilson Inlet was surveyed in December 2017, April 2018, December 2019 by underwater drop camera observations. Seagrass distribution and cover (as percentage cover in categories: 0, 1-10%, 10-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, 75-90%, 90-100%) were recorded. The canopy height (in 10 cm intervals) and epiphytic cover (as low, medium, high) was also estimated. Macroalgae distribution and cover (as percentage cover in categories: 0, 1-10%, 10-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, 75-90%, 90-100%) were recorded. Brief description

Aquatic flora surveys were conducted in Wilson Inlet between 2007 and 2019. Surveys were initially conducted in 2007 and 2008 by the WA Government Department of Water (described by 2013 "Synthesis of seagrass mapping studies"), and again annually in 2017, 2018 and 2019 by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation "Wilson Inlet Seagrass Survey - Cover (DWER-114)'.

Data access is provided to the initial WA DoW surveys. See associated DWER record on Data WA for access to newer surveys.

Statement: Survey years 2007 & 2008:
The Wilson Inlet seagrass survey was conducted by snorkel tows along predetermined transects in the estuary.

Survey years 2017, 2018 & 2019:
Wilson Inlet was surveyed in December 2017, April 2018, December 2019 by underwater drop camera observations. Seagrass distribution and cover (as percentage cover in categories: 0, 1-10%, 10-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, 75-90%, 90-100%) were recorded.
