VPRS 14347 Outward Letter Books

Full description

This series consists of bound letter volumes containing copies of outward correspondence from the Metcalfe Shire Council (VA 2467). Letter books were the means by which copies of correspondence despatched from the office were retained for future reference. Items of correspondence related to a wide range of matters for which the Council was responsible or in which it had an interest. These included the valuation of property, approval of building proposals, provision of community services, engineering, collection of rates, and town planning.

Once the volume was abandoned as a means to record a copy of all outward correspondence, the second half of Unit one was used to record Council Minutes. These Minutes appear to be a draft rather than official minutes due to the number of corrections and crossing-outs. Official Minutes of Metcalfe Shire (VA 2467) are located in VPRS 12481.

Subject-based file numbers may also appear as reference numbers on correspondence. The files these numbers refer to are currently not held by Public Record Office Victoria.
