Full description
These vouchers form the accompanying papers authorizing and explaining each payment. They state the department authorizing payment, and the amount and purpose of the payment. Itemized invoices of purchases and receipts are included. These papers were created while Lithgow was Commissary of Accounts and later retained by him when he became Auditor General. Among the more important returns are detailed statements of salaries paid in the Engineer's Department and the Police Establishments; attendance of pupils at the school of Higgins and Muldoun (King Street, Sydney), school of George Martley (Parramatta), and Roman Catholic School (Sydney); work done in the Female Factory, Parramatta (microfilm copy SR Reel 2801); daily return of Liverpool Hospital; minutes of a General Meeting of the Benevolent Society (26 October 1824), and a list of stationary servants employed in the General Hospitals at Sydney and Parramatta and the colonial Hospitals.
