Full description

This is the AMIP simulation also denoted A from the Prescribed Land AMIP ACCESS1-0 experiments collection v1.0.

ACCESS1.0 model output for a series of atmosphere-only AMIP (Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project) simulations covering a thirty year period from 1988 to 2008. These experiments were executed by Dr Duncan Ackerley of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science (ARCCSS) as part of its research program: "Drivers of spatial and temporal climate variability in extra-tropical Australia". ACCESS1.0 is a general circulation climate model developed as a collaboration between CSIRO and BoM. The 1.0 version of this model uses UM 7.3 as the atmospheric component. The ocean and land component are not included in this simulations instead the model uses prescribed SSTs and prescribed land surface.

This simulation was run with 'freely varying' land surface temperatures and, soil moisture and temperatures (i.e. freely respond to the atmospheric and radiative processes above the surface).

EXPERIMENTS

============================================================

Runs with land conditions allowed to vary freely

============================================================

A = AMIP

A4K = AMIP4K (uniform 4K added to SST globally)

A4x = AMIP4xCO2 (CO2 concentrations quadrupled from 346 ppmv to 1384 ppmv)

Anp4x = AMIP4xCO2 with plant physiological response to CO2 changes removed (as 3. but no plant response to CO2 changes)

Asc = AMIP+3.3% to the solar constant (simply increase the solar constant from 1365 W m-2 to 1410.7 W m-2)

============================================================

Runs with prescribed land (pl) conditions

============================================================

Apl: as in A except with prescribed land from A

A4Kpl4K: as in A4K except with prescribed land from A4K

A4xpl4x: as in A4x except with prescribed land from A4x

Anp4xplnp4x: as in Anp4x except with prescribed land from Anp4x

Ascplsc: as in Asc except with prescribed land from Asc

============================================================

Runs with different combinations of prescribed land (pl) and boundary conditions

============================================================

A4Kpl: SST field from A4K and land conditions from A.

A4xpl: SST field from A and land conditions from (2).

A4xpl: SST and land conditions from A with CO2 concentrations the same as in A4x.

Apl4x: SST and CO2 concentrations the same as A and land conditions from A4x.

Anp4xpl: SST and land conditions from Anp4x and land conditions from A. (see errata note below)

Aplnp4x: SST and CO2 concentrations the same as A and land conditions from Anp4x.

Ascpl: SST and land conditions from A and solar constant as in Asc.

Aplsc: SST and land conditions from Asc and solar constant as in A.

============================================================

Uniform 4K increases in land temperature experiments

============================================================
