Full description

This series of valuation books from the Mitchell Shire Council records the valuation of properties as assessed. Every year, each local council was required to set the level of, and collect rates in respect of all rateable properties within the shire district.

These valuation books consist of the following information: the name and address of both the owner and occupier, county, street name, parish, subdivision, unimproved value, improved value, assessed annual value and date and initials of valuers.

The volumes are all undated, with the exception of three. On the inside cover of these has been written “1948”; it is assumed the contained information was gathered during that year. The arrangement of the volumes would once have been chronological, but due to the lack of dates, this arrangement has been unable to be restored.
